Carlos Hyde Signs with Seahawks

In the latest NFL news Carlos Hyde signs with Seahawks. The Seattle Seahawks added some much needed depth to the running back position by adding free agent Carlos Hyde, who signed a one-year deal with the team.

Hyde, who will turn 30 in September, scored six touchdowns and ran for a career-best 1,070 yards on 245 carries for the Houston Texans last season. This while playing in all 16 games for the second time in his career. How much does Hyde have left in the tank?

Even though he rushed for over 1,000 yards last season, Hyde became expendable when the Texans traded All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for David Johnson. DJ had 345 yards in 13 games last year.

The Seahawks brought back previously retired running back Marshawn Lynch at the end of the season due to injuries at the position. With Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny both coming off season-ending injuries, the team has been trying to add reinforcement at the position and was considering bringing Lynch back this season. However, Hyde should do the trick.

Seattle offered two-time Pro Bowler Devonta Freeman a one-year deal but ultimately settled on Hyde, who will be an early-down complement to Carson, at least until Penny returns.

Carson, who suffered a hip injury, is expected to be ready for the team’s season-opener. Penny is recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL and other damage in his knee he suffered in December. He is expected to start the season on the physically unable to perform list, which means he will miss the team’s first five games at a minimum.

In the last three seasons, Hyde has played for the San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns. Also, the Houston Texans. If he rushes for over 1,000 yards again this season, the Seahawks will likely figure out a way to keep him on the roster after the season.

The former Ohio State standout has 5,079 total yards and 35 total touchdowns in six NFL seasons. How will the Seahawks fare next year? We shall soon find out!
